Welcome to Gallery A2. This is more than a space; it is a member driven movement to build and engage our community together towards the shared goals of bettering ourselves through creative experience and expression.

We are mounting two distinct curatorial concepts;

The first: member-driven themed exhibitions, showcasing our homegrown talent and giving opportunities for Artisan Asylum instructors and membership to showcase their talents in a white-box gallery on campus.

Second: Visiting Artist Exhibitions that allow the public to take hands-on educational classes with nationally acclaimed local Artists in their working modalities connecting the experience between traditional gallery viewing and access to artist-taught experiences.

Vivid Warmth: Sparking Collective Visions

Art creates space for the light and warmth of community and gathering in the doldrums of winter. We are looking for art that embraces the nature of a cozy sweater, a glowing hearth, or the sparkle of moonlit snow. Vivid Warmth will showcase  art, craft, and objects that are bright, calming, or inspiring. In an effort to counterbalance the isolation of winter, we encourage members to activate our greater community. Vivid Warmth inspires the teaching of skills and craft. We invite exhibiting artists to propose classes and workshops. This is a time for all of us to gather together.

Current Exhibition

This winter, we are thrilled to present the Striking: Silver and Steel exhibition, an exceptional showcase powered by the Artisans Asylum Jewelry Shop. Heather White and Rhea Vedro are alchemists in the craft of hammering. This exhibition highlights the vibrant intersection of artistry, craftsmanship, and community engagement, featuring the talents of Heather White and Rhea Vedro as our visiting artists in residency. The hammer is elemental to the manufactured world we inhabit. The hammer transfigures intention into object. Reaching deep into our collective subconscious, it appears throughout folklore and history (Thor, John Henry, Ogun, The Hammer and Sickle) as a representation of strength and will power.

Rhea is the Metals Artist in Residence and Lecturer at MIT’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering and is unveiling a new public art sculpture commission for Boston’s City Hall Plaza spring 2025.

Heather is Full Professor at Massachusetts College of Art and Design’s 3D Fine Arts Department, Jewelry and Metalsmithing Program, and her works are in many collections including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery, Washington DC.
