Who is Julia Csekö?
A2s new Outreach and Admin Coordinator!
Csekö was born in Colorado and grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since graduating from SMFA @Tufts she has divided her time between being an Arts Administrator in local non-profit organizations and being a practicing artist. Before joining Artisan’s Asylum as the Outreach and Administrative Coordinator she served as the Arts Program Coordinator at the Villa Victoria Center for the Arts, showcasing contemporary artist of Latin American origin/heritage, working within Latin American subjects and aesthetics at La Galeria. In May 2018 she was invited to attend the MASS MoCA residency program, diving into her sculptural work. Csekö is trained as a Fine Artist having developed a multi-disciplinary practice focused on contemporary subjects.
Her work is exhibited in museums locally and internationally, and she often works closely with renowned artists, curators, innovators and art professionals. Her trajectory as an independent curator and organizer is centered on diversity, inclusion, community building, innovation, political engagement, experimentation and risk-taking. She has participated in and organized numerous group exhibitions at national and international venues as well as in unconventional spaces (the most unusual location being a ferryboat). Her work is featured in collections including the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada; the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro and Centro Cultural São Paulo, Brazil, as well as private collections in the United States and abroad. When she is not at work or her studio you will find her at the beach, art shows, museums, music concerts and culture-related social gatherings.
