This one session tool training is the perfect way to get trained up to operate independently in the Jewelry Shop if you already have some jewelry-making experience and don’t have time for a long-form class. Testing is necessary to be certified to work on your own in the Shop. Choose the date that works for you!
Tool Training is the fastest way to start working independently in the Artisan’s Asylum Jewelry Shop and is designed for those with some level of jewelry experience, whether you’re an occasional hobbyist or a seasoned metalsmith.
In one 2 to 3-hour session, students will get up to speed on our particular shop procedures and layout as well as safety and basic use of the air-acetylene torches, forming tools, flex shafts, and the polishing machine. For those who have more experience, other tools may be covered as time allows.
This class does not teach fabrication skills such as soldering, sawing, etc. Those who are completely new to jewelry or metalsmithing are advised to take Jewelry 101 or another jewelry-making workshop.
Individual Tool Testing will follow by appointment at least one week after the Tool Training session. Testing is necessary before a member is allowed to work independently in the shop.
All necessary materials will be provided.
Because this class does not teach jewelry-making skills, some prior jewelry-making experience is necessary (whether you are a self-taught beginner or a professionally-trained metalsmith).
