Learn to operate the Artisan’s Asylum Bridgeport Series I Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) milling machine. CNC milling machines can be used to make parts that would be difficult or impossible to machine manually. CNC milling uses build files to control the machine’s movements, which makes machining multiple copies of the same part easier and more reliable.
This class focuses on operating the Bridgeport CNC milling machine, recently rebuilt using a LinuxCNC control system. (LinuxCNC is an open source motion control system, used in a wide variety of machines. AXIS is the most common interface used with LinuxCNC.)
Students will learn:
using the machine controls, including the standard LinuxCNC AXIS interface
loading G-code build files and previewing tool path information prior to run
using Kwik-switch tool holders and ER collets
setting tool length offsets and work offsets in LinuxCNC using a touchoff probe /
running G-code build files and making adjustments during the run
Students will get hands-on practice with the machine during the class, using instructor provided build files, tools and material.
After completing the class, students will be required to schedule a testing session and must provide their own build file, tools and materials for that testing.
**Prerequisite: Tested out on Manual Bridgeport Mill within the last 3 years, or by permission of the Instructor.

All materials for the class will be provided. Students should bring hair ties for long hair, no loose clothing, closed-toed shoes.
