If you already have an idea of what you want to build, and you just want to learn how to safely use the basic tools you need (or just need a refresher), this Tool Training session is for you! This class teaches correct use of the following woodworking tools: the handheld power drill, impact driver, standing drill press, panel saw, circular saw, jig saw, scroll saw, spindle sander, belt sander and disc sander.
During the two class periods, students will learn and then have the opportunity to demonstrate their competency and get signed off on the tools. Students will be authorized to use the tools independently as members at Artisan’s Asylum after successful completion of the testing portion for each tool.
Please note that this Tool Training does not provide significant practice with each tool, nor discuss any intermediate or advanced techniques. To learn how to use woodshop tools at a more advanced level, please take a look at the longer-form classes available on our Current Class Offerings page.
By the end of the tool training session, students will be comfortable with the operation of the handheld power drill, impact driver, standing drill press, panel saw, circular saw, jig saw, scroll saw, spindle sander, belt sander and disc sander. Student will also be able to demonstrate knowledge of tool troubleshooting, shop organization and shop maintenance.
After passing the proficiency test, they will be able to use all of the tools in this group as a member in our workspace.
All practice materials will be provided by Artisan’s Asylum.
