Gouache is an amazing water-soluble paint that includes both pigment and a gum or additive that makes it more opaque than watercolor. The color lies on the surface of the paper, forming a continuous layer, or coating that allows for glorious layering. Perfect the art of glazing, manipulating layers, transparencies, and mixing. Practice rehydrating, dry brushing, mimicking watercolor, creating volume, wet-to-wet, and other techniques. Play with gouache in combination with other art media like colored pencils.
Students will be able to:
– develop confidence and competence in managing and maximizing the water soluble paint
– practice glazing and manipulating layers
– practice transparencies
– practice mixing colors and creating gouache color chart for reference
– practice dry brushing
– practice some experimental layering
A supply list will be emailed out prior to the start of the class.
