This class teaches students the basics of the 3D modeling software, SketchUp, a program used by architects, designers, builders, makers and engineers. In this course, we will review the fundamentals of the interface and students will learn to draw forms and objects, add color and texture to their models, and edit prebuilt models to use in their designs. This course is recommended for students interested in incorporating 3D into their work and design process. The class will be taught using “SketchUp Free”, the skills learned seamlessly translate to SketchUp Pro if students opt to purchase the software.
Session 1: Learn the SketchUp user interface and create 2D drawings
Session 2: Use SketchUp to transform 2D drawings into basic 3D models
Session 3: Create detailed 3D models using more advanced SketchUp tools
This class will be run through Zoom and a link will be provided 24hrs before the start of the class. Students will need to log into Zoom via a desktop or laptop computer, and suggest using a hand-controlled mouse. Students may download SketchUp Free prior to the start of the class, but it is not required and will be covered during the first session.
