Learn How to Knit a Hat!

March 2 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

|Recurring Class (See all)

An event every week that begins at 6:30 pm on Monday, repeating until March 9, 2020

Class Description
This class will teach students how to make a cable-knit hat that is constructed in-the-round. Cable-knitting and knitting-in-the-round are two techniques that will be developed through in-class explanations as well as practice with their own projects. The class is intended for intermediate knitters who have experience knitting and would like to learn these two techniques. Students should be able to cast on and off, knit and pearl, and
are ready for the next step.

The hat pattern chosen for the class is The Traveling Cable Hat by Purl Soho. This is a free online pattern that has a varied, cable-pattern that lends itself to understanding cable-knitting concepts. Coupled with hands-on assistance, attendees will gain confidence in reading cable-patterns and comfort making cables in their future projects. If students want to just focus on the knitting a hat in the round without cable-knitting, a modified pattern will be available without the intricate cable pattern.

Class Goals
By the end of the course, attendees will have learned how to knit in the round using circular needles and/or on double-pointed needles (DPN’s). Students will also have confidence ready knitting patterns pertaining to cable-knit stitches. Students will make one hat throughout the class that they will work on in class as well as at home.
