This class unveils the mystery of cutting simple shapes out of metal and texturing. Students modify an old hammer to create a signature texture for their jewelry collection. Then, using this and a variety of other hammers, we experiment with a variety of textures and finishes on metal. This class reviews how to cut metal with a saw and/or shears, file, sand and polish the surface then impress texture, pattern, etc. onto the metal without a rolling mill. Great for creating a simple pair of earrings or an addition to a sculpture.
Students will complete a variety of exercises that are centered around the idea of texturing metal and creating different shapes. These exercises can be applied to sculpture and jewelry.
