Build upon your Jewelry 101 skills and learn the art of setting faceted gemstones! In two evening sessions, we will cover how to set faceted gemstones in prongs (4-prong heads) and in small bezels, also known as tube-setting.
This class will help bring your jewelry-making to the next level by teaching you the foundations of faceted stone setting. First we will cover setting round gemstones in four-prong heads, and then tube-setting, which involves setting faceted gemstones in small bezels (requiring a different technique than standard bezel setting or prong setting). In order to focus solely on technique, we will perform all stone setting into silver heads on copper sheet, rather than in finished pieces of jewelry. This will allow you to learn the fundamentals of faceted gemstone setting, after which you can use the skills you learn in this workshop to set faceted gemstones in jewelry of your choice in the future.
Wednesdays; 1/23/19 – 1/30/19
The $40 materials fee for this class will be due at the beginning of the first class session. This fee will include the sterling silver heads on copper plates, and cubic zirconia stones for setting. Bring a notebook to take notes and glasses or an optivisor if you need them to see tiny things up close.
