Introduction to Fusion360: 3D Printing and Laser Cutting

January 5 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Learn to make COVID-19 PPE items in Fusion 360 for 3D Printing. Tuesday & Thursday 1/5 & 1/7

For anyone who has never used this 3D modeling platform before, this online session is a basic introduction to CAD (Computer Aided Design) using Fusion 360 and 3D printing. During the two virtual evening sessions, students are introduced to the process and the CAD-to-Printer workflow of designing a 2D sketch and transforming into a physical 3D object from scratch using Fusion 360’s platform.

Fusion360 is a free CAD program for personal usage, so you can test it prior to our class.

Session one will guide you through the basics steps to using the software and building an object. In session two, you will finalize your 3D object and have any CAD questions answered. Then you will learn about the process of 3D printing and CAD objects in the physical world. Don’t worry if you do not have any 3D printing experience! You will learn how a 3D printer works (software & mechanical) and also how to troubleshoot the most common problems. For this session, we will focus on how to make COVID19 PPE items like ear savers and no-touch tools, although if you have any build requests please let us know and we will try our best to include it in the class. (E-mail requests or comments to the instructor: chaz@elevateshrimp.com)

Students will become familiar with the concepts of design thinking for digital fabrication and how to design 3D objects in Fusion360 with the intention to 3D print. You will understand the basics of the 3D printing workflow, starting from putting your 3D object into slicer software to the settings to get the most out of your 3D printer. With some basic tips and tricks, this class will get you 3D printing your designs in no time.

Online sessions will be led by Chaz Hing, who has several years of applied 3D design and 3D printing experience from his startup (ElevateShrimp.com) where he innovates for global consumers in the freshwater aquarium hobby industry. Our virtual live sessions will allow you to ask questions and get feedback as you go.
