Introduction to Surface Mount Circuit Assembly and Rework

February 27 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Would you like to learn modern, surface mount approaches to circuit assembly, but need a quick introduction? This class introduces students to the basic techniques required in order to get up and running with their own DIY surface mount circuit assembly and rework, preparing students for prototyping and building their own SMD circuit board creations.

Introduction to the Raspberry Pi

March 5 @ 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Class fee: $200 / Materials fee: $90. This class will provide an overview of the Raspberry Pi and its operating system. Students will build simple applications using GPIO, a stepper motor and a camera module. Experience with Python and Linux would be useful but is not necessary.

Hands On Basic Electronics

March 9 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
|Recurring Class (See all)
Mondays, 3/9/20 - 3/30/20

Class fee: $225 / Materials fee: $30. Have you been interested in learning to work with electronics, but haven’t known where to start? This class is for you! It will be a hands-on, practical, crash course that will provide you with the skills to do simple electronic projects. You will walk away knowing the basics of circuit theory, how to prototype circuits on a breadboard, how to troubleshoot them, and how to solder them together.

Art and Interactive Electronics

March 10 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
|Recurring Class (See all)
Tuesdays; 1/7/2020 - 1/14/2020

Class fee: $120 / Materials fee $30. Electronics are everywhere, and now, they are becoming part of our art. This four hour course
will introduce you to the Adafruit Circuit Playground, a wearable and relatively easy to program microcontroller/development board, that is based on the extremely popular Arduino platform, used throughout the world in many educational settings.

Introduction to the Raspberry Pi

March 21 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Class fee: $200 / Materials fee: $90. This class will provide an overview of the Raspberry Pi and its operating system. Students will build simple applications using GPIO, a stepper motor and a camera module. Experience with Python and Linux would be useful but is not necessary.

Intro To Circuit Board Design Using KiCAD

April 2 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Are you eager to begin designing your own circuit boards, but need help getting started? This class is a ‘quick on-ramp’ to DIY circuit board design using the popular open source circuit board design software KiCAD (free, runs on Linux / Mac / Windows). In this one-day course, we’ll use an example circuit and present the basics of schematic creation, footprint selection, board layout, and board production.

Art and Interactive Electronics

April 7 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
|Recurring Class (See all)
Tuesdays; 4/7/20 - 4/14/20

Class fee: $120 / Materials fee $30. Electronics are everywhere, and now, they are becoming part of our art. This four hour course
will introduce you to the Adafruit Circuit Playground, a wearable and relatively easy to program microcontroller/development board, that is based on the extremely popular Arduino platform, used throughout the world in many educational settings.

Robotics 101

April 11 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm
|Recurring Class (See all)
Saturdays; 4/11/20 - 4/25/20

Class fee: $275 / Materials fee: $25. A class intended for the beginner who has little prior knowledge of the subject of robotics, using hardware and software tools readily available to the average user much of it through the open-source community. This is a hands-on class in three sessions with the emphasis of learning by example, utilizing a collection of Raspberry Pi controlled robots based on a simple hardware robot platform developed especially for this class at Artisan’s Asylum.

rapid milling cnc

Intro to Rapid PCB Prototyping: CNC Milling

April 20 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

In this class we’ll cover the basics of circuit milling by using a popular hobbyist CNC device, the OtherMill, to produce an existing circuit board design. After taking the class, students will be able to use an OtherMill to produce their own circuit board designs, and discuss other open-source toolchains for circuit board production.

Art and Interactive Electronics

May 5 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
|Recurring Class (See all)
Tuesdays; 5/5/20 - 5/12/20
