MIG Welding (Metal Inert Gas Welding) is a simple, versatile arc welding process that is generally considered to be the easiest to learn of the arc welding processes. Our Basic MIG Welding class is designed for the very beginner or for the intermediate welder that needs a refresher.
In this class, you will learn principles of welding safety, proper set up of the MIG welding machine, and welding techniques/welding joints.
At the end of this class, you will understand how to set up the machine, how to produce a sound MIG weld on mild steel. The overarching goal for this class to take a student with no knowledge of welding to the point that they can sit down in the metal shop and begin self-guided practice and learning.
Steel for the practice drills will be provided by the instructor. All necessary safety equipment will be provided by Artisan’s Asylum.
Students should dress appropriately for welding shop work, in long pants/shirts of 100% natural materials (jeans and flannel shirts are good choices), closed toed shoes (boots preferably). Students can bring their own welding helmets, jackets, gloves, and safety glasses, if they have them.
There are no prerequisites for this class.
This class will not run with fewer than 3 students.
