Electronics are everywhere, and now, they are becoming part of our art. This four hour course
will introduce you to the Adafruit Circuit Playground, a wearable and relatively easy to program
microcontroller/development board, that is based on the extremely popular Arduino platform, used
throughout the world in many educational settings. The Adafruit Circuit Playground has many sensors
and outputs which can be used to make a variety of interactive and wearable electronics. The course
will allow you to blink and change lights in response to sounds, make sounds in response to light or
temperature, and interact with your body or hand based on its orientation. Computers will be provided
with all the needed software, although you can bring your own laptop.
This course has been refined over the years, and gets you moving on your projects with a minimum amount of fuss. As a bonus, students can always come to Artisan’s Asylum Free Circuit Hacking night to expand on their knowledge and develop project ideas.
The goal of this class is to get students familiar with the Arduino programming environment and real world projects that interact with their surroundings.
Students will learn:
– Basics of microcontrollers and the Arduino Integrated Development Environment (IDE)
– The basics of digital input, digital output, analog input and analog output
– Use of sample programs, and connection to onboard and external sensors and servo motors
– How to incorporate the Arduino and Arduino-like boards in product prototypes, and discuss product prototyping issues
Circuit Playground and peripherals (servo motor, alligator clips, jumper wires, battery pack and batteries).
This class will not run with fewer than 5 students.
