Textile Screen Printing
Cost: $250 + $7.24 ticket fee
This class will take the student through every step of the screen printing process, all the way from generating a design to making a finished product on professional equipment. There will be two projects, a single color design and a four color design. The student will learn how to generate a digital positive; how to prepare, expose, and reclaim screens; and printing techniques for textiles. We will discuss printing techniques for other surfaces. The student will have access to and learn how to use professional screen printing equipment. We will use professional plastisol inks for our projects and will discuss the differences between other inks available (water based, dispersion). The student may provide their own garments to print onto or they may purchase garments from the American Apparel wholesale catalog.
This class is the inaugural screen printing class for Artisan’s Asylum. The instructor will be waiving his fee and Artisan’s Asylum will be putting all of the income of the class towards purchasing professional quality equipment that members can then use as standard workshop equipment after the class is over.
The goal of this class is to familiarize students to the process of screen printing at a semi-professional level, to the point where they could easily make their own art as a matter of course or start a small screenprinting company using Asylum equipment. The student will come home with a minimum of two custom designed shirts, one single-color and one four-color.
Students will purchase small amounts of screenprinting materials and either provide clothing to screenprint or order it through the American Apparel catalog.
