Metalworking 101 will provide the students with the basic training to start working in the Asylum’s metal shop and is the perfect warm-up to Artisan’s welding classes. This class is a survey of and safety training for all for the basic tools in the metal shop.
The class consists of formal training from the instructor who will demonstrate safe and successful usage of each tool, describe and demonstrate best practices, and inform students of unsafe and undesirable outcomes. Each student will have hands-on time with each tool under supervision.
Each student will learn how to pick the right saw for the job, how to drill holes, and how to grind down the burrs left behind from the saws and drills.
This class covers safety requirements, operation, and adjustment of the following tools:
Abrasive Cut-off Saw
Pedestal Bench Grinder
Metalworking hand tool use (file, hacksaw, etc.)
The instructor will provide the metals for use in the tool training. Artisan’s Asylum will provide the needed safety equipment.
Required Dress Code:
-Cotton clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. Avoid synthetics, which will burn/ melt.
-Long sleeves and pants
-Something to cover your hair: Elastic, scrunchie, hat, bandana, etc.
This class runs 2 Saturdays starting March 9 @ 12 PM
This class will not run with fewer than 3 students
